The donkey is known for its long ears, soft muzzle and sweet face. There are four levels. Ages 2–3 get a simple donkey with big ears, a body and hooves that are easy to color. Ages 5–6 add inner ears, a forelock, rings around the eyes and a belly. Ages 7–10 get two baskets full of fruit on its back, a cross stripe on the body and eyes with detail. Ages 11 and up get the most detailed version, with a flower on its head, extra basket lines, grass and tiny extra details to color.
Kids can use classic grays and browns, or they can mix in bright colors for the baskets and the flower. The fruit is a nice place to practice red, orange, yellow and green.
Donkeys are good for learning, too. They have been helping people carry loads for thousands of years, and they are known for being sure-footed on rough ground. Their large ears help them hear sounds from far away and also help them stay cool. A baby donkey is called a foal, and the sound a donkey makes is called a bray, often written as “hee-haw.” Kids can learn these facts while they color.
Coloring helps with fine motor skills, patience and creative thinking. It works for a farm lesson, a quiet moment at home or a rainy-day activity. Choose an age level, pick your colors and give your donkey a colorful load to carry.
